Feyenoord are set to send academy director Zeb Jacobs a formal offer to leave Rangers this week, according to 1908.

The Dutch outlet reported via their website on 23 April that the Eredivisie giants have already been in "extensive" talks with the 29-year-old, who moved into his current role last summer two years after arriving as the head of academy coaching, and think they are close to a deal.

Feyenoord reportedly don't have to get agreement from the Light Blues, with Jacobs only required to serve a notice period stipulated in his contract if he decides to leave.

Rangers departure imminent for Zeb Jacobs?

It is hardly going to be part of the plan at Ibrox to lose Jacobs ahead of Philippe Clement's first summer in charge of the club.

Ross McCausland may have broken through to the first team this season but the pipeline of talent from the academy hasn't been plentiful enough in recent years.

With the possibility of a third-straight season without winning the SPFL title now a major possibility after the initiative was handed back to Celtic it is all the more important for Rangers to be able to develop their own talent in-house to avoid falling further behind should extra prize money or European cash land at Parkhead.

Jacobs is highly-rated and it will surely come as a significant blow to the Ibrox hierarchy if he is on the brink of an exit.

But it is seemingly out of club chiefs' hands and if discussions have been positive between the Belgian and Feyenoord then Rangers may be looking for a replacement sooner rather than later.
