Rangers can re-sign Andreas Skov Olsen for cut-price deal with exit wanted
Rangers may look to re-sign Andreas Skov Olsen this summer, despite opting against the decision to trigger his buy option from VfL Wolfsburg.
The Gers signed the winger in the winter window, in what was arguably the most hyped up transfer for the Bears.
The Dane struggled to adapt in Scotland, however, and despite Danny Rohl showing faith in him on multiple occasions, the trust was never repaid.
Towards the end of the season, Skov Olsen found himself starting on the bench, as it was made clear that Rohl wasn't a huge fan of his anymore.
Rangers had the option to make his loan move permanent for a reported £9million fee, but didn't.
The Light Blues will sign a new right-winger this summer, but their plans have already taken a hit from the unexpected change of manager, with Derek McInnes set to take over at Ibrox.
Either way, Rangers may now be enticed by the fact that they can sign Skov Olsen for less than the previously agreed transfer clause in his contract.
Rangers may be able to sign Andreas Skov Olsen for less than £9m clause
There has been nothing to say that Rangers are completely against re-signing Skov Olsen, just that the £9m clause was deemed to high in the end.
The 26-year-old had moments, but his main issue was being unable to make a stamp on games, and have the desired input required in the final third.
Skov Olsen has shown elsewhere in his career that he can be a top-class player, but may have suffered with low confidence at Ibrox.
Salzgitter Zeitung have reported in their cover this Tuesday, as relayed by Sport Witness, that Wolfsburg are keen to sell the forward this summer.
It's also suggested that he may be available for cheaper than the £9m Rangers would have had to pay for his services, had they triggered the clause in his loan deal.
He and two other returning loan players do not have a future with the German side, who need to reduce their squad size this summer.
How much is Skov Olsen worth?
Even if Rangers were open to re-signing Skov Olsen, the player himself may have reservations about coming back to Ibrox.
The former Club Brugge star received lots of criticism from pundits and fans while here, and no doubt had struggles off the field.
Rangers certainly made the right choice in deciding against paying £9m for him, though a lower price could tempt them.
Anything over £5m would be too much for Skov Olsen, though anything underneath could spark transfer interest once more.
