Rangers have been urged to sign Motherwell left-back Emmanuel Longelo this transfer window.

The Gers are in search of cover for Tuur Rommens as Derek McInnes continues to build his squad in G51.

After Jayden Meghoma's exit after the end of last season, the former Westerlo star is the only natural option for the Light Blues at left-back.

Longelo has now been suggested as the perfect signing for both Old Firm clubs as the Ibrox recruitment department look at options to bolster the backline.

The Englishman caught a lot of people's attention with his performances for the Steelmen in the previous campaign.

In Motherwell's opening game of the new season against Hibernian at Easter Road, the defender was influential as Alfred Johansson's team won 2-1.

Why Rangers decision with Emmanuel Longelo doesn't make sense

Ibrox News have covered McInnes' desperation for new signings in the coming weeks after the 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

A new left-back should be on the agenda at the Govan side if the American owners want to build a competitive team for the Scottish manager.

Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson has been left confused by the two Glaswegian clubs' lack of movement regarding the 25-year-old Motherwell ace.

With both Old Firm sides in desperate need of reinforcements at left-back, the two recruitment departments' actions have been called into question.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 2 August, Jackson said, "Celtic are crying out for defensive cover for Kieran Tierney. And Rangers likewise need cover for Rommens. What have [the recruitment department] been doing for the last 12 months? Because I've just watched Longelo again - he's outstanding and he's at your doorstep. That's a perfect signing. It baffles me."

What Derek McInnes needs in final weeks of transfer window

Apart from a new left-back, there are evidently various pressing concerns at Rangers in terms of recruitment.

With Ben Godfrey going off injured against Dundee United, the Gers still need to sign another central defender after Olwethu Makhanya.

With Oliver Antman leaving and Nedim Bajrami also seemingly on his way out, McInnes needs more quality out wide.

Findlay Curtis and Djeidi Gassama can't be the only options on the wings for the Scottish manager.

There's plenty of work that needs to be done on outgoings as well, with the squad in Govan potentially getting a big makeover by deadline day.
