Rangers midfielder Tom Lawrence is "dispensable" this summer and will almost certainly leave Ibrox during the transfer window, according to Chris Jack.

The Welshman has had a stop-start career in Glasgow, with multiple injury setbacks and now reports suggest he could depart this summer with both Besiktas and Ipswich Town keen [Scottish Daily Mail, 10 June].

Although it remains to be seen whether or not there is any substance behind these links, Rangers Review journalist Jack has admitted he expects the Gers to move him on and upgrade this summer.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (10 June) he said: "Tom Lawrence, I would be surprised if he is still a Rangers player next season.

"You look at that area of the pitch, he's not good enough to play in one of the two midfield roles, Diomande is one of them and I would imagine there will be another midfielder coming in to take up that other slot.

"There will be another of different moves in that number 10 area. For me, Tom Lawrence is someone who is dispensable within this squad. Whether that's going back down south or whether that is going to Turkey, time will tell.

"But I will be surprised if he's got a long-term Rangers future. I think he's somebody Rangers can move on and certainly improve on."

Will Rangers sell Tom Lawrence to Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window?

When he is at his best and fully fit, Lawrence can be a match-winner on his own for Rangers. The Welsh international is capable of unpacking a defence with an excellent pass or even slotting in from long-range with a powerful strike.

But more often than not, he is stuck on the treatment table or kept out of the team by one of the many other midfielders in Philippe Clement's squad. Ultimately, he is surplus to requirements in the long and short term.

Rangers Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement is in need of reinforcements at Rangers.

If the Gers are able to get a good amount of money for his services this summer, they will almost certainly accept it. As Jack suggests, he is responsible and replaceable so it feels mre than likely he will be sold.

Not only can that money then be reinvested back into Clement's summer rebuild in Glasgow, but the likes of Todd Cantwell and the other attacking midfielders already at Ibrox will be guaranteed greater game time.
