James Penrice has had an exceptional start to his Rangers career.

The left-back has returned to Scotland with a vengence, having taken a career detour through Greece.

Signing from AEK Athens on an initial loan, there is an permanent option to buy him.

Derek McInnes has shown great faith in Penrice, who left Hearts quickly after the former Tynecastle boss took charge.

Reuniting at Ibrox has proven great for both parties, with the defender playing a huge part in the recent rebuilding success.

That continued with a 3-0 win over Celtic, and the bargain price to sign him has since been revealed in Govan.

How much will Rangers pay for James Penrice?

There are always question marks over players who are allowed to leave on loan at first, not permanently.

Why would their parent club be happy with that?

Penrice himself admitted that he wanted to come to Rangers as soon as the interest was revealed, and that likely played a huge part.

Scoring and assisting on debut against St Mirren, and smashing the ball into Celtic players on Sunday, he's already loved in the Ibrox terraces.

Now, the Daily Record has shared the "ridiculously low fee" that it will take for Rangers to keep him long-term.

The newspaper states that it's a six-figure fee that's already agreed, which the American owners have until next summer to trigger.

At this rate, it's almost a guarantee that will happen already.

Why James Penrice arrived at perfect time

The exact same was said about Tuur Rommens last season.

Jayden Meghoma was only on loan from Brentford, but he and Max Aarons were nowhere near good enough for Ibrox.

Rommens came in from Westerlo and was superb for Danny Rohl.

But, the start of this season saw injury hit and the Bears were left with nobody for that role, until Penrice.

With interest in Rommens over the summer, it could open the door for him to leave while Rangers bank profit and have Penrice already in place.
