Rangers have failed with an initial attempt to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles.

Charles has been hugely impressive for Wednesday since his breakthrough, and made 11 saves in the opening day loss to Leicester City on Sunday, 10 August.

Karl Hein is another name that has been mentioned at Ibrox, with the Arsenal shot-stopper set to leave The Emirates this summer.

Pierce Charles camp confused by Wednesday stance

Chansiri is facing increasing pressure to sell Sheffield Wednesday, with fears among fans about the club's survival increasing by the day.

The Championship side have been hit by several embargoes and transfer bans in recent months, with staff and players failing to be paid on time, or at all, in some cases.

Wednesday have already lost 13 players this summer as a result, with Djeidi Gassama, who moved to Rangers for around £2.2m, among those to depart Hillsborough in the wake of the financial chaos.

Chansiri has, so far, been unwilling to sanction the departure of goalkeeper Charles; however, with bids from Rangers and Premier League club West Ham going unanswered.

That decision has confused some at Wednesday, including Charles' camp, The Independent reported on 14 August, with the Rangers bid likely to have aided in future payments to staff and players.

There appears to be no current end in sight for fans of the Championship club, who did progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday courtesy of two penalty saves by the 20-year-old.

Rangers should keep tabs on ongoing Pierce Charles situation

The situation at Sheffield Wednesday is, understandably, incredibly volatile. Chansiri's next move is entirely unpredictable, and he may well change his mind on the Charles front.

That would give Rangers the chance to sign a very well-touted young goalkeeper, who could easily usurp Jack Butland in the coming years.

But until then, decision-makers at Ibrox should be keeping a close eye on developments at Hillsborough.

If the talents of Gassama are anything to go by, then Charles is a signing worth waiting for.
