Olwethu Makhanya Rangers transfer plans revealed by agent as worry emerges
Olwethu Makhanya could be a target for English teams in January after his performances at Rangers.
The South Africa international signed for the Gers in the summer for £3million and fans are already talking about him being worth almost ten times that price.
It wouldn't be surprising to see the 22-year-old centre-back move to one of the top five leagues sooner rather than later after shining under Derek McInnes.
While the Premier League may be interested in Makahanya, his future seems to lie at Ibrox for now.
The defender signed a four-year contract at the Glaswegian outfit and they have control over his situation as things stand.
Given the South African ace's partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez this season, the Govan side could go on to win the Scottish Premiership.
Will Olwethu Makhanya leave Rangers in January?
Makhanya was impressive against Dundee in the 2-2 draw, continuing his fine form for the Gers.
There's no doubt about the centre-back's quality, who has exceeded everyone's expectations after moving to Scotland from the MLS.
Rob Moore, who represents the South Africa international, told Bears icon Richard Gough that he was worried about Makhanya getting picked up by an English team in January.
Even the defender's inner circle realises the situation he finds himself in after a strong start at Ibrox.
However, the former Philadelphia Union star's agent has a clear plan for his future.
Speaking to the Daily Record on 20 October, Gough said, "What Rob really wants to happen is for the lad to stay at Ibrox for a couple of years say, get a hundred games or so under his belt and then make the move down south when he's really ready for it."
Who Ibrox hierarchy can cash in on next summer
It wouldn't make sense to sell Makhanya after just one season, as he can be influential in taking Rangers back to the top.
Even if the Gers win the league title this season, the South African centre-back would still be pivotal to their European ambitions.
The defender has brought stability to the Light Blues' backline since moving to Ibrox.
If the Glaswegian outfit part ways with Makhanya, Fernandez's performances will likely go downhill again.
Instead of cashing in on the summer signing, the Govan side should look to move on the former Peterborough United player if they receive a suitable offer.
