Nathan Paterson could be the perfect transfer target for Rangers this summer.

The defender left Ibrox in 2022 to join Everton, but it has not worked out for him in the Premier League.

He looks increasingly likely to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium after being handed limited opportunities by David Moyes.

A return to Govan could be on the cards, with The Star reporting that the Light Blues could complicate Sheffield United's move for the 26-cap international.

Danny Rohl's recruitment revolution could mean that the 24-year-old is a solution for the Gers in the market.

Why Patterson fits Rohl recruitment plan

Patterson is Scottish and knows what it means to play for the Gers, having been at the academy since the age of eight, before moving on.

He featured 27 times for the Glasgow outfit before leaving for L3, in a deal which could reach £16million.

That means that he would fit Rohl's plan, and would be a brilliant addition to the side that needs significant impetus.

Why Patterson signing is perfect for Rangers

Patterson's signature could be even more important after James Tavernier's exit.

The Gers are set to lose one of their most influential players on a free transfer and they need a competent replacement, one that understands how the club works.

Patterson would bring the knowledge of Scottish football and the passion that has been lacking desperately in recent years, having come through the ranks at Auchenhowie.

Rohl started the window off with the signature of Lawrence Shankland, another boyhood Bears supporter, so he is intent on bringing experienced Scottish players.

The defender's experience already in G51 and his time with the Toffees should serve him well to be the new starting right-back for Rohl's team.

It may not have worked out on Merseyside for Patterson, but it could lead to a second chance with the Gers, just four years after his initial exit.

It remains to be seen if they formalise their interest, but if they do, it would be a clear sign that they are following Rohl's direction.

It seems as though the club hierarchy are fully backing the German in his first summer market in charge of the club.
