Metinho is on Rangers’ radar as they look to splash the cash after Russell Martin’s appointment.

The Brazilian is on the back of a successful loan spell at Basel, where he helped the Swiss side end their long wait for another division title.

Now back at French outfit Troyes, Rangers are looking to add Metinho to their squad

With Kevin Thelwell now in post alongside Dan Purdy, they could make him part of the Ibrox set-up.

Metinho set to be available for a ‘competitive’ price

While Rangers have given Martin £20million to spend, the Gers still need to be careful not to use up the budget too quickly.

Thankfully, regarding Metinho, the Daily Mail (12 June) has claimed the dazzling maestro is available for a “competitive” price as he goes into the last year of his contract.

The midfielder has a fascinating backstory after fleeing the war-torn Congo as a baby to start a life in Brazil, all because his dad was a massive fan of Ronaldinho.

If true about the asking price, Rangers have no excuse not to sign the 22-year-old.

Unlike many of the players linked, Metinho has experience winning league titles in competitive divisions.

If available for cheap, Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh have to approve the signing of the youngster and ensure he is ready for their upcoming Champions League qualifiers next month.

Rangers need to target players with title experience

If Rangers are going to pip Celtic to the Scottish Premiership next season, they have to bring in stars with experience of winning titles.

With how dominant the Gers’ Old Firm rivals are, it will be a big ask from Martin’s side to bridge the gap. However, it is doable if the right signings are made this summer.

Players with CVs such as Metinho are ideal, as it is someone who played regularly in a division that boasts Champions League outfits.

If Thelwell can find similar players to the Brazilian, then Rangers may have a fighting chance next season.
