Davide Ancelotti is ramping up his push to become the next manager of Rangers.

The Italian has held fresh talks with those at Ibrox this week, with more to come as Patrick Stewart leading the hunt for Philippe Clement's permanent replacement.

Ancelotti is happy with how talks have progressed, and even believes he is the first choice, ahead of the likes of Steven Gerrard and Brian Priske.

Even without a final answer yet, it appears that Ancelotti could be readying a sensational opening transfer, with shock Luka Modric talks emerging.

Modric set for sensational Rangers move

Guillem Balague has shared the latest for BBC Sport, saying that Ancelotti has even held talks with Modric over the possible move.

The Croatian superstar has announced his upcoming exit from the Bernabeu, but is yet to decide on his next move in his magnificent career.

Asked if he would join Ancelotti at Rangers, Balague says Modric didn't decline it.

It is said that Rangers risk missing out on Ancelotti, though, if they don't make a decision by the first week of June at the latest, potentially speeding things up.

Modric to transform Rangers

The 39-year-old isn't the only Real Madrid star who could turn up at Ibrox under Ancelotti, with the likes of David Alaba already suggested, too.

The 49ers are ready to offer their new manager a budget higher than previous seasons in Glasgow, and free transfers on players who will likely accept pay cuts, tick every box.

Modric running out in the blue of Rangers would be unthinkable for many, but this is what Ancelotti could offer if he is appointed.

With Ancelotti wanting an answer in the next week, it appears likely that Rangers are going to be making an announcement very shortly.

If the Italian is joined by Modric, even just as player-coach, it would send shockwaves through the Scottish Premiership.
