Lewis Ferguson may have priced himself out of Rangers transfer with 'astonishing' reveal
Lewis Ferguson will be one of those players who is consistently linked with a move to Rangers.
Certain players are born to represent Rangers, and Ferguson is simply one of those, he can't escape that.
Having left Auchenhowie in his youth days, he would go onto Hamilton and Aberdeen, before lighting up the Serie A with Bologna.
So, why would he move back to Ibrox?
Being the son of Derek Ferguson and nephew of Barry, there aren't many families more affiliated with the blue half of Glasgow.
And with each passing summer, the links between the pair just continue to get stronger and stronger.
With Derek McInnes, his former manager at Aberdeen, now in charge at Ibrox, this move makes more sense than ever.
Could World Cup stop Rangers from signing Lewis Ferguson?
Ferguson exploded into life as soon as he hit Italy, quickly being made captain of Bologna.
Not only that, but he actually won the Serie A midfielder of the year award in 2024 and would go onto the lift the Coppa Italia after.
All of that has led to the 2026 World Cup, where Keith Jackson has picked him out for special praise.
"They're crunching the numbers and theres sheets and sheets of statistics being thrown about in this World Cup," he said on Daily Record's Hotline Live.
"One of the ones that's really impressive, is there's not a player in the tournament that's covered more ground in terms of mileage on the pitch than Lewis Ferguson.
"I find that astonishing."
But that actually may not be very good news for Rangers, who are only watching his pricetag go one way.
"He may have just taken himself out of Rangers price bracket."
What has Derek McInnes said about Lewis Ferguson?
At only 19, McInnes couldn't stop singing his praises and labelled Ferguson as a key player in his squad at Pittodrie.
Constantly pointing out his reliability in midfield, that is exactly the kind of player that is needed at Ibrox to turn this rut around.
Even if he does become more expensive, there is one way that Rangers could afford to make it happen.
Nicolas Raskin is also currently at the World Cup, and after years of shining in a disappointing team, would selling him at a price be that bad if Ferguson is his replacement?
Rangers have won very little with the battling Belgian, and although he would be a miss, change is sometimes needed in football.
You need to sell at the right time, and it appears there's no time like the present for Raskin to move on with maximum value behind him.
With Ferguson getting back to his very best at the World Cup with Scotland, now is the time to strike while the iron is hot.
Let's not just hope this is a dream that never happens.
