Lawrence Shankland to Rangers transfer verdict emerges as Aberdeen stance mooted

Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack has admitted he can't see the Light Blues signing Hearts star Lawrence Shankland during the summer transfer window.

Philippe Clement's side were linked with the Scottish international throughout the January transfer window and while no deal ever came to fruition, they have still been tipped to move for his services again.

The Gers have also been credited with an interest in the Dons' other star striker Bojan Miovski and while Jack admits he would like to see the centre-forward arrive this summer, he doesn't think either deal will happen.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (10 June, 23:00) he said: "The other one will be that people will say that if you don't sign Miovski, go and sign Lawrence Shankland.

"I think he falls into the same category. At his age and with the fee that it is going to take, I just don't see that one happening.

"It's going to be a name that will come up every show that we do but I would like to see Rangers sign Miovski, I don't think it will happen. I'm not that fussed about Shankland and I don't think that one will happen either."

A new number nine has to be high on Clement's agenda this summer. Although Cyriel Dessers has shown signs of improvement as the season has gone on, he still isn't at the level required to fire the Gers to the title.

There will be hope around those at Ibrox that the likes of Danilo and Oscar Cortes can chip in with a few more goals next term, but that won't matter too much if the Light Blues don't have a clinical finisher in their ranks.

Shankland has the ability to be that man, but even with a year on his deal, Rangers will have to pay a premium to try and drag him out of Aberdeen this summer. It feels unlikely they will be willing to do that for a player of his age.

Miovski may be younger and more of a fit to Clement's system and plans, but that will only make him more expensive. Unfortunately, it doesn't feel like either forward will be playing their football at Ibrox next term.
