Rangers and Celtic are both linked with a move to sign Monaco left-back Kassoum Ouattara in this transfer window.

The Frenchman has been a fringe player for the Ligue 1 side, making just 12 league appearances last season.

He joined Monaco from Amiens back in 2023 and could be on the move again this summer.

Rangers may take closer look at Ouattara's calf injury

Rangers and Celtic are both keen on signing Ouattara this summer and have already contacted his agent.

Foot Mercato reported on 31 July that Monaco do not want to send the France Under-21 international on loan and are looking to sell him permanently.

The left-back suffered a serious calf injury last season and Dr Rajpal Brar has explained why Gers may want to take a closer look at it.

The 20-year-old has not played a single league game since 17 January, as he was initially an unused substitute and then suffered a calf setback.

Dr Brar told Ibrox News: "Rangers may take a closer look at his recent calf injury to assess healing and any potential recurrence risk.

"He missed numerous games through it and after he recovered, he once again was missing in action.

"This undoubtedly is a cause for concern and may require further examination."

Russell Martin may caution the Rangers board against signing Ouattara due to the 20-year-old’s unproven status, limited game time and recent injury concerns.

Ouattara played only 390 league minutes for Monaco last season, starting just five matches, indicating a lack of top-level experience.

A major injury further questions his reliability and readiness for Gers’ demands.

With Max Aarons joining and Jefte already in the squad, Ouattara may not offer a clear upgrade.

Martin, prioritising squad stability and proven performers, might argue that the money on him is better spent elsewhere.
