Josh Mulligan shares transfer truth that Rangers must live up to
Josh Mulligan has revealed a harsh truth that Rangers must take on board.
The Ibrox side are currently rebuilding under Derek McInnes after finishing third in the Scottish Premiership.
They have already signed the likes of Lawrence Shankland, Dan Neil and Ivor Pandur to bolster their squad.
However, that never materialised and he joined the Edinburgh side instead from Dundee.
The midfielder has now opened up on the idea of playing for the Gers, and they must live up to what he has said.
What did Josh Mulligan say about Rangers?
Mulligan has revealed that playing for the Bears or Celtic is no longer the pinnacle for Scottish players.
Speaking about his future to the Hibs Observer, he said: “Since I’ve started playing first-team football, there have been fewer players going to Celtic and Rangers.
“Back in the day, I think everyone wanted to go there for a big move, but recently, it’s not been as common.
“But I’m not looking to get out the door. I want to be here; I love playing for Hibs, and I want to keep showing what I can do in a Hibs shirt.”
The Light Blues need to change that as soon as possible, they need to become a destination where the best Scottish players want to come and play.
A big money move to Ibrox should be the end goal for the nation's best talent.
However, Mulligan's admission suggests that is not the case anymore, and that needs to be sorted as quickly as they can.
What Scottish players could Rangers bring in to change the current narrative?
They have already added Shankland and Ross McCrorie but they were not big money moves.
A real statement would come if they could poach Lewis Ferguson from Bologna, as that would send a real statement.
That deal is understood to be difficult, and costly, with a £17.2m fee believed to have been placed on the World Cup star by Bologna.
Luke Graham is another promising talent who has been linked with McInnes' side in recent months.
The Bears are also understood to be monitoring James Penrice, who is currently out in Greece with AEK Athens.
If they could bring one of the three in, preferably Ferguson, due to his outstanding quality and the connection he already has with the G51 club, it would signal that they are still a dream destination.
The hierarchy have made it clear that they want the best Scottish talent, to get the identity back into the club, and there would be no one better to achieve those ambitions.
