Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes has been spotted in a Greek airport ahead of his move to Aris Thessaloniki.

Greek source Yellow Radio [11 August] has shared the image of Cifuentes arriving ahead of his medical on Monday night (12 August), joining on an initial loan with a mandatory buy-clause.

It is understood that, with the player currently earning £16,000-a-week, the Gers will cover part of his wages during his loan spell next season [Sport24].

Has Jose Cifuentes played his final match for Rangers?

The 25-year-old has certainly failed to live up to expectations, having arrived on a £1.2million deal last summer during Michael Beale's reign at Ibrox [Sky Sports].

He made just 20 appearances for the Gers since, being sent out on loan to Cruizero in February, where he has also failed to make a good impression and played just 12 times.

The Ecuadorian showed such promise before arriving in Scotland last summer, being a regular figure for LAFC in the MLS, but it is a deal that has just not worked out for all parties at Ibrox.

However, all those involved at Ibrox will be rather pleased with the £4.2million price tag that the Gers are set to receive from his sale, once the loan-to-buy clause is triggered next summer [BN Sports].

Jose Cifuentes, Rangers
Jose Cifuentes has struggled during his Rangers spell

Given his performances for Rangers over the last year, fans would not have been expecting to make any profit on the midfielder, let alone pocketing a few million after falling short in his career in Scotland.

Cifuentes continues to be called up to the Ecuador national team, which makes his failures all the more confusing, but Rangers will no longer be too bothered about his development now.

Fans will now be patiently waiting for the deal to be confirmed.
