James Tavernier finally finds new club after Rangers exit as medical booked

James Tavernier is closing in on his first move after leaving Rangers earlier this summer.

The former Gers skipper spent over a decade in Govan, winning the hearts of the Ibrox faithful.

His time in Glasgow didn't have a fairytale ending, though, as he had a bust-up with Danny Rohl which ruined what was supposed to be his final game a Ibrox.

Derek McInnes and the Bears have moved on without the 34-year-old, with new options at right-back to utilise.

However, Tavernier is getting on with his own career, and is set for his first transfer since leaving Rangers.

Who is James Tavernier joining?

Tavernier had been in talks with various different clubs this summer, one being MLS side Charlotte FC.

However, the Englishman has chosen to join Israelian side Maccabi Tel Aviv, who competed in the Europa League last season.

According to Sky Sports correspondent Anthony Joseph in an update on X on Monday, Tavernier is due to travel to Israel on Tuesday for a medical.

The right-back is most likely getting himself a nice deal in terms of annual salary with Tel Aviv.

Rangers brought in Ross McCrorie to replace Tavernier, in a transfer that is still up for debate.

The former Bristol City man has had some injury issues since arriving in Govan, but McInnes will hope his former Aberdeen star can be an important player this season.

It's hard to tell whether Rangers have done well to replace Tavernier, considering just how impactful the defender was in his 11-year stay.

Who knows? Perhaps Kosta Nedeljkovic can come through and be a fan favourite.
