Keith Jackson believes that James Tavernier is "counting down the hours" to his Rangers exit.

This comes after the defender has been linked with an Ibrox exit since the start of the window, with a plethora of clubs interested in acquiring his services.

Speaking on the Daily Record's Hotline [6 August], ahead of Rangers' 1-1 draw with Dynamo Kyiv, Jackson shared his thoughts on Tavernier and where his future may lie.

"Tavernier has been miles off it and looks like a player who’s counting down the hours now until the transfer window puts him out of his misery," Jackson said.

Rangers need to find a suitor for James Tavernier before 30 August

Although Tavernier had quite a solid game against Dynamo Kyiv on 6 August and earned himself a 7/10 during the Champions League qualifier, it feels as if he's not got the quality that the Gers now desire.

While there's no denying that the right-back has been one of the Glasgow-based outfit's best players over the past few seasons, it feels as if now would be a good time for the two to part ways.

He is one of the Gers' highest earners and if his performance during Rangers' opening game of the season against Hearts is anything to go by, his days are numbered.

James Tavernier
James Tavernier has had a stellar Rangers career

Robin Propper is an example of this as he has been brought in to replace Connor Goldson. With Propper being 30 years old, it was more or less a like-for-like swap.

Tavernier is also one of the oldest members of the squad and if a team comes in with a reasonable bid, it would be silly for the club to reject it, especially when they need to make more sales to bring in further reinforcements.
