Ibrahim Adel ticks Rangers boxes for Philippe Clement as offer made for late transfer

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Ibrahim Adel would bring the sort of wing play that Philippe Clement wants in his Rangers side if the club were to win the race to sign him, says Derek Ferguson.

The Pyramids FC winger is said to have "wowed" the Gers during the Paris Olympics [Daily Record, 27 August] and they are making an attempt at a late deal before the deadline, with an offer believed to have been made [Botolaat, 28 August].

Ferguson has highlighted the need to add quality to the Light Blues' ranks before the 11pm deadline on 30 August, and feels that with exits going through late in the window the 23-year-old could be the sort of addition needed in return.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: "I don't know too much about this guy but obviously they've had a look at him, he ticks the boxes in terms of I think he's kind of an inverted winger who likes to come in from the touchline. So he ticks the box in terms of what Clement's after.

"But at the moment it's about trying to get some quality into that squad, and it's a really delicate balance at the minute because I think there will be players leaving, and we certainly need players in.

"I heard a bit about this boy but we just need quality. We need more quality players."

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell
Todd Cantwell is set to leave Rangers as Philippe Clement looks to bring in reinforcements.

Todd Cantwell exit could clear space for late Rangers deals

Clement has been stuck having to get players out to bring others in, and recently admitted publicly he had some in the way he had told weeks ago could leave.

One of those would surely have been Todd Cantwell who has asked to leave and hasn't played at all since the end of last season, so with a deal now agreed for him to join Blackburn [Daily Record, 29 August] there could be room for a late attacking addition.

John Eustace had put the move in doubt with his comments about a possible medical [Lancashire Telegraph, 29 August] but it looks like there will be a small window of time left to replace him.

Ben Davies has already made a loan move south to Birmingham City and will be replaced [Chris Jack, 27 August], while Scott Wright is set to make a permanent switch to the same destination [Rangers Review, 28 August].

But while there is belatedly space in the squad to add, the time left to get deals done is minimal.
