How much Rangers have paid Philadelphia Union for Olwethu Makhanya as deal announced

Olwethu Makhanya has now been announced as a Rangers player.

The Gers confirmed that the South Africa international had joined their ranks on Thursday from Philadelphia Union.

He has signed a four-year deal with the Ibrox club, with the option to extend that by a further year.

Ibrox News previously covered claims that Rangers would pay just £3million for his services.

However, there have also been claims that the fee would be closer to £4-5m.

Now, clarity has been provided on the actual amount that the Govan side will pay for the defender as it is made official.

How much have Rangers paid for Olwethu Makhanya?

Gers fans will likely be very happy with the figures that have now emerged following the completion of the deal.

David Edgar, who runs the Heart and Hand Podcast claimed that the Bears will pay the lesser amount.

He took to X to respond to the announcement, saying: "Makhanya signs, fee of £3m. Welcome to Ibrox!"

That should leave the Gers with more financial flexibility to bring in more additions for Derek McInnes.

What's next for Rangers after Makhanya capture?

Rangers have already added seven players before the defender, with the likes of Ben Godfrey, Cammy Devlin, Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil.

They are expected to target a right-winger next, with Amario Cozier-Duberry, Vaclav Cerny and Jahnoah Markelo understood to be on their shortlist.

Tromso's central midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl has constantly been linked, and he could be next on the agenda after an attacking player is sorted.

That move may depend on Nicolas Raskin’s future, and whether he departs the Govan outfit this summer, with interest from the likes of Real Betis, Roma, Bologna and Hull City.

McInnes wants to equip his side in the best way possible to compete with Hearts and Celtic, and two more players would put them in a great position to do so, if they can manage to get deals done.
