Rangers have turned down the opportunity to sign Couhaib Driouech from PSV Eindhoven.

The Moroccan looked set to come through the doors at Ibrox within days or even hours.

He looked likely to be the attacking depth that the Gers were desperate to bring in.

That was needed after a terrible start to the season as Derek McInnes continues to go without a win.

The Scot will now have to go without the 24-year-old as his Govan switch is now off the table.

That was reportedly due to a failed medical, but Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers might actually be to blame.

A move for the winger was certainly close as he travelled to G51 and was spotted at Ibrox on Thursday.

He watched on as the Light Blues were dumped out of the Europa League.

Many joked that he would be personally calling off a deal after what he saw against Jagiellonia.

The deal has now fallen through, but it is said to be due to an injury that would have made him unavailable immediately after signing.

Dutch outlet ED has since reported that the final word to cancel a deal came from the Rangers owners.

That saw the transfer arranged by senior figures Gretar Steinsson and Dan Purdy halted at the last second.

The idea of pulling out is seen as "absurd" by PSV, especially with Driouech being declared fit for the long-term in his medical.

Has Cavenagh and the 49ers made the right call on Driouech?

The Light Blues are in desperate need of a boost after four games without victory to start the season.

Conceding goals has been a problem, but a lack of goals is leaving many frustrated in G51.

Thelo Aasgaard is the only Rangers player to score in open play, with his strike coming on the opening day of the season.

Adding Driouech would have added creativity and a true goal threat after his 17 goal involvements across all competitions last year.

The question now surrounds his injury and whether it was worth cancelling a deal all together.

You can understand why a transfer would be called off, but ultimately, the final decision should be with McInnes, Steinsson and Purdy.

Instead, Cavenagh and the 49ers have undermined them all to make a final decision of their own.

That may not go down well inside of Ibrox and could cause some seriously unnecessary tension.

It may prove to be the right call for the long-term, but could cause plenty of issues for the short-term.
