Hampus Skoglund latest: Hammarby chief exposes level of Rangers' interest in transfer admission
Hampus Skoglund has been linked with Rangers in recent weeks, but the Gers may not be advancing on their James Tavernier replacement as fast as they had hoped.
The Bears have set out a plan to replace their club captain, and the Hammarby star is reported to be high on their list of potential transfer targets.
However, the sporting director of the Swedish outfit, Mikael Hjelmberg, has played down any interest of Rangers in his latest update on the £2million-rated full-back.
Thankfully, the 49ers do have other options on their list of right-backs; however, they risk the chance of missing out on key targets by not acting fast enough.
Rangers have been linked with Skoglund and appeared to be very keen on the Swedish star, but their interest may not be as serious as first believed.
What has been said about Hampus Skoglund?
Rangers have already missed the opportunity to sign Luca Stephenson as Tavernier's replacement, with the former Dundee United loanee set to join Championship side Bolton.
Another transfer update this week has also seen Danny Rohl's side let slip of linked Danish target Silas Andersen, who is set for a medical with Sporting CP.
Now, Hammarby's sporting director, Hjelmberg, has suggested that Gers haven't even been in touch over a rumoured move for Skoglund.
Hjelmberg said, as quoted by the Daily Record: "Hampus is an important part of the team. We have a very good squad, and my goal is to try to keep that squad as intact as possible.
"I have no idea how serious Rangers' interest in him is because I haven't heard a sound from them.
"The transfer window hasn't opened, but of course, I have a fairly close dialogue with Hampus' agent. But there haven't been any concrete talks between us and any clubs yet."
It could be that Skoglund has never been on Gers' radar after all, and if that's the case, then so be it.
But Hammarby wouldn't be aware if the Bears did have him shortlisted, unless they tried to act on their interest.
Should Rangers actually try to sign Skoglund?
The words from Hammarby's sporting director don't rule out the possibility of Rangers signing Skoglund, just that they have yet to initiate talks.
While it has exposed the fact that Gers are yet to act, they could be weighing up all possible options before deciding on which target to pursue.
Skoglund is a talented full-back who grabbed five assists in 37 games during 2025.
The 22-year-old has shown signs of high potential, but if Rangers want him to replicate Tavernier's attacking output, they could be clutching at straws here.
Skoglund has just one assist in 10 games this season, and it could be that Rohl prefers someone else to the defender.
