Rangers are set to miss out on the transfer of Porto right winger Goncalo Borges to Strasbourg, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Scottish newspaper, via its website on 29 July cited a L'Equipe article on the same day which claimed that a £6.7million bid has been made by the Ligue 1 side and an agreement is close.

Gers needed to open their purse strings to sign the 23-year-old Portuguese winger [Record, 29 July] but it now seems like he will not be moving to Ibrox.

Rangers need to target more players of Goncalo Borges' calibre

Gers should not be disheartened by missing out on Borges and should continue to target players of his calibre.

The 23-year-old possesses qualities that would have significantly enhanced their squad.

His pace, dribbling ability and potential to improve further make him an attractive prospect for Rangers.

While missing out on Borges is disappointing, it should not discourage the Ibrox outfit from pursuing similar targets.

The club's recruitment strategy should focus on identifying and signing players who fit their style of play and can make an impact in the Scottish Premiership and European competitions.

By targeting players of Borges' calibre, they can ensure that they continue to improve their squad and remain competitive at the highest level.

The hierarchy should remain proactive in identifying and such talents, even if it means facing competition from other clubs.
