Rangers are yet to contact Nottingham Forest over the signing of Emmanuel Dennis, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish outlet reported [27 January] that the Gers have not yet opened talks with former Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson, who became Forest's head of recruitment in April 2023 [BBC Sport].

It is understood that Championship side Watford are likely to secure the 27-year-old's signature before 3 February, with Forest keen to get his £4million-a-year salary off the books after being frozen out by Nuno Espirito Santo [The Sun].

Rangers to miss out on Emmanuel Dennis transfer?

A return to Vicarage Road makes far more sense for the out-of-sorts striker, having spent the second half of last season on loan with the Hornets.

At Ibrox, Cyriel Dessers is being heavily linked with a move out of Glasgow, but considering his recent words to the public about having unfinished business with the Gers, it all seems like speculation.

Of course, few supporters would blame the 30-year-old for leaving, having fallen below Hamza Igamane in Philippe Clement's pecking order, who now has 13 goals from his first 27 appearances.

Dessers is continuously hounded by the Ibrox crowd, and when he misses a few key chances in front of goal, the media also come after him, but Dennis does not feel like the ideal replacement should he leave.

The 27-year-old has scored just two goals in 25 appearances for Forest since the summer of 2022, having been sent on loan to Basaksehir and Watford since.

He has yet to play a single minute of senior football since the 2024/25 campaign kicked off, lasting featuring for the Hornets in their 1-0 win over Sunderland back in April.

If the Light Blues are to bring in a new striker before the winter window slams shut, it needs to be someone who can make an immediate impact, not someone who is likely struggling for fitness and is completely out of form.
