Villarreal have already initiated contact to sign Djeidi Gassama from Rangers in the winter transfer window.

The 22-year-old features on the LaLiga outfit's list of targets as they look to strengthen their attack in January.

Villarreal's interest in Gassama recently came to light, with the Spanish club exploring the terms of a potential deal.

Danny Rohl will be financially backed to make new signings at Ibrox, and there could potentially be significant incomings and outgoings at the Glaswegian outfit in the coming weeks.

Rangers to demand more than double what they paid for Djeidi Gassama from Villarreal

Gassama's camp acknowledges that his time at the Gers could soon be coming to an end, according to Fichajes.

The news outlet reports on 13 December that the Light Blues, who signed the French winger from Sheffield Wednesday for £2.2million, could now sell him for more than double at Ibrox.

It's been claimed that the young forward stands out in Villarreal's potential list of targets, with discreet enquiries already made to assess his situation.

Gassama put in another underwhelming performance against Ferencvaros in the Europa League on 11 December, and his angry reaction after getting substituted for Mikey Moore didn't help.

If a compelling offer arrives for the former Sheffield Wednesday attacker, Rohl will have a massive decision to make on a player who has been key for him in recent seasons.

Djeidi Gassama to be followed by another Kevin Thelwell signing out the door

Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart were sacked at Ibrox after the Gers went through a tumultuous spell under Russell Martin.

The former sporting director's recruitment at Rangers was abysmal as he signed 12 players in the summer.

It can be argued that the Light Blues have a worse squad this season than last, despite a £20m net spend.

While the Glaswegian outfit may look to cash in on Gassama, they could potentially also cut their losses on Youssef Chermiti in January and opt to reinvest that money in a prolific striker.

The developments in G51 over the coming weeks will be worth watching closely.
