Dan Neil will immediately have won over Rangers fans with transfer decision he made - here's why
The central midfielder was a free agent after his contract at Sunderland officially came to an end on 30 June.
Neil spent the end of last season on loan at Premier League new boys Ipswich Town, and there was plenty of interest in his signature.
Indeed, Southampton were said to have been in advanced talks to take the 24-year-old to St Mary's Stadium.
Relegated Premier League duo West Ham and Wolve were also linked with an interest in Neil, who rose through the ranks at the Stadium of Light.
And there is one decision he made that is sure to win over the hearts and minds of Rangers fans already.
Dan Neil had no shortage of options before Rangers move
Rangers have been extremely active in the early weeks of the transfer window.
The Gers are working to put together a squad for Derek McInnes that is capable of challenging Celtic's dominance of the Scottish Premiership title.
Lawrence Shankland, like McInnes, made the move from Hearts, while Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, and Ivor Pandur signing on already.
The Neil deal seemed to happen swiftly, and Rangers Review added an interesting nugget that supporters will love.
The Rangers outlet reported that, as well as the aforementioned clubs south of the border, that Neil had offers from clubs overseas.
However, Neil rejected those overtures and instead made the switch to Govan to join McInnes' rebuild.
Who else are Rangers looking at this window?
Rangers may have been active thus far, but there will be likely be more arrivals in the coming weeks.
Among the most prominent rumours is a move for Bologna and Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson, son of former Rangers player Derek Ferguson.
Motherwell's New Zealand international Elijah Just is said to be a long-term target, though there could be plenty of competition for his signature.
Westerlo right-back Bryan Reynolds, and Dundee centre-back Luke Graham are also names who are reportedly on Rangers' radar this summer.
It will certainly be interesting to keep an eye on developments at Ibrox in the coming weeks.
McInnes went mightily close to winning the title with Hearts last season, and he needs a squad capable of challenging again this time with Rangers.
