Billy Gilmour has been flying the Rangers flag around Europe for years now.

Having left Auchenhowie and Ibrox behind for Chelsea in his youth days, the midfielder now plays for Napoli.

Stays at Norwich and Brighton came in between, but there was a feeling that he never lived up to his reputation in England.

And after missing the World Cup due to that gutting injury against Curucao weeks ago, this summer feels like a reset.

The same can be said for Rangers, who were happy to let Danny Rohl leave for RB Salzburg, with Derek McInnes already replacing him.

Gilmour will be focusing on recovery, but he never forgets to keep an eye on everything happening at Rangers.

Rangers transfer business ramps up again

It has been a busy couple of weeks at Ibrox.

Lawrence Shankland was the first transfer of the summer, with Ross McCrorie making it two on Thursday.

Like Gilmour, McCrorie came through the ranks in Glasgow before moving on, and has made his way back home.

Signing from Bristol City for £1.5million, the right-back took to Instagram to share his delight at coming home.

Gilmour was quick to comment on his international teammate's post, sharing some clapping emojis.

Oli McBurnie also commented the same, fresh off promotion to the Premier League with Hull City.

What has Billy Gilmour said about Rangers?

Despite being the standout figure in the academy at the time, Gilmour never actually made a senior appearance.

It will likely haunt him that it never happened, too.

Telling a story about the legend, Jimmy Bell, Gilmour wasn't allowed to keep his top after making the squad for a Scottish Cup game.

He wasn't included on the bench, but still tried to keep his Rangers shirt with the number 65.

Gilmour revealed that Bell didn't allow it, but did hand it over just before he moved on to Chelsea.

With Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises putting a real emphasis on signing local players who know what it means to play for Rangers, there aren't many better than Gilmour.

Shankland, McInnes and McCrorie all fit into that category, and with links to Lewis Ferguson already, it'd be no surprise to see the same about Gilmour soon.
