Olwethu Makhanya is already drawing admiring eyes at Rangers.

The Gers forked out £3million to sign the South Africa international from Philadelphia Union in the summer transfer window.

Makhanya arrived at Ibrox as part of a huge summer rebuild, which saw 14 new players arrive to bolster Derek McInnes' squad.

The 23-year-old has been one of the most impressive of those arrivals in the first couple of months of the season.

Makhanya is forming what looks a formidable partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez early in his Rangers career.

As such, he is already reportedly on the radar of clubs around Europe, and former Rangers defender Richard Foster posed one interesting theory.

Will Rangers look to draw more interest in Olwethu Makhanya?

It was recently suggested that Rangers are under no pressure to sell Makhanya in the next 12 months.

Makhanya has a contract at Ibrox that runs until 2030, meaning they hold plenty of aces in any potential negotiations.

Still, Makhanya reportedly has interest in Spain and Italy, while Premier League sides Sunderland and Brentford reportedly had scouts in attendance to watch him in the 3-1 win over Kilmarnock las time out.

Foster, who represented Rangers between 2013 and 2015, thinks Rangers might have a different test of their resolve at the end of the season.

But he also speculated that Rangers might be trying to draw interest themselves early in his career, noting how they previously had plenty of admirers in Alfredo Morelos during the peak of his Ibrox career.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, BBC Sportscene pundit Foster said: "A lot of the scouting now is done with data, so the likelihood is he performed very well with the data because he is quick, he's strong, he's decent enough on the ball, so all these stats will be high.

"Rangers have been winning games, not conceding a lot of goals, so everything will be going in his favour. But yeah he's not really faced a top opponent, not really faced adversity.

"I think give him a season, let him be this consistently good for a season, then it's a different question.

"I don't know whether they're just maybe trying to spark interest in him early, how many teams wanted to sign Morelos? Must be about 30 different teams came in for Morelos. So you don't know.

"He's done very well thus far, not really been overly tested in terms of going down to England. If he manages to maintain that form for the entire season, that's a different question."

Rangers in no rush over Olwethu Makhanya

It is little secret that Rangers have been pretty poor when it comes to player trading in the past.

Morelos is a prime example of a situation where Rangers had the chance to cash in while a player's stock was high, and failed to do.

But there's absolutely no rush to make these kind of decisions on Makhanya yet.

He's barely been in the door two minutes, he's still only 23, and has a contract until 2030.

So, Rangers are better served getting the best out of the South Africa ace, because he could be crucial in their hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership this season.

If we get to the end of the campaign and big offers start arriving, then perhaps would be the time to have a difficult conversation.
