Why Rangers board could be forced to sack Derek McInnes after what's happened
Derek McInnes has had a baptism of fire at Rangers.
The sudden departure of Danny Rohl at the start of the summer left Rangers clamouring to find another new manager.
Rangers landed on snaring McInnes away from Hearts after he almost oversaw a famous Scottish Premiership title.
But, amid a backdrop of a huge squad overhaul, Rangers have started the season in hugely unconvincing fashion.
McInnes knows he is about to enter a defining period, and former Celtic winger McGeady named the reason Rangers' board might have to sack him.
What could cause the board to sack Derek McInnes?
Rangers have had a record summer of spending in the Scottish Premiership, shelling out over £35million.
McInnes has seen 13 players arrive during a hectic summer recruitment drive, the signings of Minsu Kim and Kevin Kelsy finishing off their business.
In September, Rangers face off with Old Firm rivals Celtic twice - one in the Scottish League Cup and once in the Scottish Premiership.
Guests Mark Guidi and Aiden McGeady got into a discussion about how much of a defining period it is for McInnes on the Go Football Radio Show.
Journalist Guidi said: "I don't think you can afford to lose both games to Celtic. But equally, Rangers can't keep changing managers. The fans need to accept it as well, it's not the rangers of 25/30 years ago, and nine in a row, and Dick Advocaat. It's one title in 15 years.
"At some point you have to say 'okay, as a football club what do we need to do to arrest the decline?'
"Because it can't always be down to the manager, there's been some top managers in the door and they've fired them all. So, it's about the football club and what they do as a business and what they do on the park on a Saturday."
However, McGeady believes that with the vast outlay the board have made, they will feel that McInnes has to deliver the goods to justify the spending.
McGeady said: "For me, though, at some point something's got to give. I know you say you can't keep changing managers, but what are the board going to say when they've spent that amount of money?
"They've spent so much money, so to then have a manager in place who might not be successful this season, might not win a trophy. To then not change him, you're gonna have to change it."
McInnes will be under no Rangers illusions
McInnes grew up a Rangers fan, so he will be under no illusion about the pressure he is under.
Two things can be true at once here. Yes, it probably does not help chopping and changing managers so often.
But the demand for success is made abundantly clear the second you walk through the door at Ibrox.
McInnes will not want it any other way. But he knows that he simply has to to deliver the good or the he will inevitably be the latest Rangers manager on the scrapheap.
