What we learned from Derek McInnes' first press conference as Rangers manager, including transfer update
Derek McInnes has now spoken out in a press conference for the first time since becoming Rangers boss.
The Scot was appointed earlier in June after the confirmation of Danny Rohl's move to RB Salzburg.
His appointment has certainly gone down well with the Ibrox faithful, especially after the addition of Lawrence Shankland from Hearts.
In the statement released by the Govan club, the 54-year-old spoke of the "real honour" to be joining his boyhood side as manager.
He has now spoken out infront of the media for the first time as we get a better insight into his G51 switch.
McInnes' words are bound to leave the Bears excited as Ibrox News assesses what we learned from his first press conference as Gers boss.
Why is Rangers right for Derek McInnes now?
The 54-year-old has long been linked with the role in the Govan dugout, but hasn't made a move until now.
Interest was at it's strongest while the manager was at Aberdeen, before he went on to manage Kilmarnock and Hearts.
Speaking in the press conference on Wednesday, McInnes has revealed that he wanted a move in 2017, but after that wasn't possible he's greatful to make it possible nine years later.
He said: "I was ready for it back then (in 2017) but it was a different set of circumstances. There was lot going on and I was in a really enjoyable period at Aberdeen.
"At that time I wanted to be Rangers manager but it was a different ownership, feeling and set of circumstances when we went into talks. Today is about becoming the Rangers manager rather than looking back and I'm just delighted to be given the opportunity to be asked again."
He went on to add how excited he is to kick start his reign in charge of the Gers.
The new boss added, "I feel as though it's the right time for me and I am ready for it. I feel as if I belong here and I am looking forward to getting started.
"Rangers fans have suffered with winning one title in 15 years and it's up to us to play a key role in driving the standards and getting a winning Rangers team again."
That will certainly be music to the Bears' ears after so many years of frustration up against Celtic in the title race.
McInnes explains backroom staff selection at Rangers
When an appointment is made, the next question is always who will follow the manager through the door on his coaching staff.
That was confirmed as part of the announcement for McInnes at Ibrox as Alan Archibald, Paul Sheerin and Craig Clark came in.
McInnes has now revealed why exactly this trio will join him, especially given that Clark wasn't on his team at Hearts.
He said: " Paul and Alan are former teammates and have been coaches with me for a long time. Paul was given the reserve manager job when I was at St Johnstone when I got the manager job, he came to Aberdeen and I worked with him closely. Both have been managers in their own right and I like that in my staff.
"Craig is someone who I inherited at Kilmarnock, he was under-18s coach when I was there and I thought he was wasted in that role.
"I fast-tracked him into the first team and it was my intention to get him to Hearts, but I couldn't get him to Hearts due to the amount of staff I already had at the club, but I'm delighted to bring Craig alongside us again to work together.
"Each will bring something a bit different, Craig is a bit younger than the three of us, but everyone has a role to play."
It's clear that there is positive reasoning behind the selections, as the Ibrox faithful will hope they can have the desired impact moving forward.
McInnes already working on Rangers transfer business
Last summer looked to be a period of change in Govan as Kevin Thelwell and Russell Martin combined.
Both were eventually given their marching orders for some poor business and a terrible start to the campaign.
Things have to be different this time around and McInnes already has plans in place alongside Jim Gillespie and Stig Inge Bjornebye.
The Scot revealed, "The work is already getting done for next season in terms of recruiting players. I am confident that with Jim, Stig and the other guys that we are going to bring the best players here. It does take more than just being a good player to play for Rangers.
"There has to be a lot more under the bonnet to deal with that expectation. I feel that part of my job is to make the most of the current squad but also add players that can help us be successful.
"It's a modern way of doing things, we've got a recruitment team, we'll identify the key positions that we feel we need to bring in and within that, there's conversations being had and work to be done.
"The first port of call is affordability and accessibility to bring players here. There's no point fishing in ponds that we're not going to be able to bring players in. We quickly arrive at a list of players that we can get."
That all points towards positivity moving into the summer as changes need to be made to push towards a first Scottish Premiership title in seven years.
McInnes speaks well, so let's see if the results on the pitch match that.
