Steven Gerrard to Rangers now real possibility as Danny Rohl exit on cards
Steven Gerrard could replace Danny Rohl at Rangers this summer, with the latter linked with an exit already.
A handful of Ibrox faithfuls wanted to see Rohl sacked after the Light Blues missed out on yet another league title.
However, it became apparent rather quickly that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss would be handed another shot at achieving success with Rangers, given the positive signs that had emerged throughout the campaign.
The Gers have already bolstered their chances of doing so by wrapping up the free signing of Lawrence Shankland, who has been a thorn in their side throughout his time with Hearts.
Rangers looked set to back Rohl this summer, but that stance may have changed with reports emerging on Thursday morning stating that Salzburg are pushing to hire the German.
Rohl is said to be open to a move to the Austrian outfit given his previous links with the Red Bull group, and in turn, that leaves the Gers with just one clear option.
Could we see Steven Gerrard back at Ibrox?
Rangers have been starved of success since the departure of Gerrard, who was the manager responsible for their last league title.
Return rumours have rumbled on ever since, though nothing concrete has ever materialised.
That may change if Rohl opts to move to Salsburg, with the 49ers simply having to conider a move for the former Liverpool midfielder.
Gerrard has been linked with several jobs within England, with Burnley the most recent, though the chance to return to Rangers and get them back on track may apepal to him if the chance comes around.
Gerrard has aleady shared his thoughts on Rangers reunion
As alluded to above, Gerrard has been the first name mentioned on each occasion that there has been a managerial vacancy at Ibrox, and this summer will be no different.
Gerrard has previously spoken out about turning down the chance to return to Rangers, for reasons that may no longer apply.
Last November he said: "I had some really positive and interesting talks with the owners. But it felt a bit rushed.
"There were a few things I was uncertain about. And if I'm going to take a challenge that big and that important - I've got that affection and connection with Rangers - for me to take that on again, it had to be perfect and I had to be 100% ready."
Is now the right time? It may only be a matter of weeks until we find out the answer to that question again.
