Russell Martin's likely next club will have Rangers fans in hysterics
Russell Martin's reputation has plummeted since his failed stint at Rangers.
It goes without saying, but the Light Blues' lack of success in recent years comes down to several factors, and many more than just the managers.
However, their failed appointments over the years have certainly contributed to that, with Danny Rohl the latest to be scrutinised after missing out on the Scottish Premiership title after a relatively calamitous end to the campaign.
Prior to him, it was Martin, Phillipe Clement and Michael Beale, with the latter two having been forced to drop down a level to return to management after their exits from Glasgow.
And as per the latest reports, it seems a similar fate is in store for Martin, albeit this time, far more severe.
Russell Martin advancing in talks with Leicester
Martin's success with Southampton saw him linked with several Premier League jobs, before he was given a crack at the top flight with the Saints.
That failed miserably, as did his move to Ibrox, where Rangers averaged just 1.24 points per game under his stewardship, which was his worst record throughout his relatively short managerial career so far.
Not only has that had a negative effect at Rangers, but is has also damaged his reputation, with a move to Leicester City now said to be advancing.
The Foxes will play in League One after they suffered relegation last time oput, which speaks volumes about where Martin's stock is right now.
Rangers must remain patient with Danny Rohl
Martin's tenure was a reminder of how bad things really can get at Ibrox, and that should not be forgotten, nor should it be overlooked.
The Gers looked years away from competing for anything meaningful, and yet Rohl had them doing exactly that just 12 months later.
Rangers endured a rough end to the campaign, but there were more psotive signgs than there were negative throughout the season, showcasing the progress they have made.
That progress will only continue with patience, but having been starved of success in recent years, it remains to be seen how much of it Gers supporters have left.
