Rangers manager Philippe Clement is one of the leading contenders to take the Belgium national team manager job, sources have told the Daily Record.

The website reported [18 November] that the Belgian FA chiefs are preparing to sack Domenico Tedesco following the Red Devils' 1-0 defeat to Israel on Sunday 17 November.

With the Belgian FA keen to hire a homegrown boss after the appointments of Roberto Martinez and Tedesco, Clement has emerged as an early frontrunner, especially with the recent hire of Vincent Mannaert.

Mannaert has previously worked with the Belgian at Club Brugge, where the pair lifted two Belgian league titles together, and would be keen on a reunion.

Philippe Clement to leave Rangers and join Belgium national team?

Given the amount of criticism and pressure currently on Clement, it would not entirely be a surprise if he were to take this exit from Ibrox and leave his problems behind.

The manager seems heavily invested in getting the Gers back to their glory days, having only claimed one Scottish Premiership title in the last decade, but the Ibrox ship is currently lacking a leader.

With the boardroom seemingly in disarray, and fans calling for Clement to be sacked with nine points separating the team from Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the table, he could be offered a way out.

Clement has stated several times about his desire to remain in Scotland and improve the Gers for the future, but the fans' frustrations are bound to be taking a toll on him at this point.

Going back to work with a previous colleague, one of which helped him to a rather successful spell in Belgium could be too tempting not to take and leave the Gers behind.
