Max Aarons 'extremely disappointed in himself' despite first Rangers goal vs Livingston - This is why

Max Aarons was the Rangers hero during the 2-1 victory over Livingston on Sunday.

With the score level heading into stoppage time, Aarons emphatically smashed home from a corner to give Rangers their first Scottish Premiership win of the season.

Aarons was sent off in the 6-0 demolition to Club Brugge in the second leg of the Champions League play-offs on 27 August, and has failed to regain a starting spot in the team ever since.

Aarons has come under scrutiny since he moved to Ibrox on loan from Bournemouth, yet his match-winning goal could spur him on to play a big part in Rangers' season again.

Aarons had initially been used at left-back, a role which he had never played before during his career, and that contributed to his poor start at Rangers.

After the match against Livingston, Aarons has spoken about how he has reflected on the costly moment against Club Brugge.

He said: "Yeah, no one was more disappointed than myself with that. I've never been sent off in my career.

"A moment like that, a lapse in concentration, was extremely disappointing for me, especially in a crucial game like that."

Rangers were already 3-1 down from the home leg, and Aarons' eighth-minute red card in Brussels sealed the Bears' elimination from the Champions League.

Aarons is an experienced full-back, graduating through Norwich's academy and playing in the Premier League regularly as a youngster.

Max Aarons unlikely to start over James Tavernier

Aarons will have to displace club captain James Tavernier in the starting line-up, with the Rangers legend scoring the other goal in the win over Livingston.

Tavernier is in the final year of his contract, yet reports have suggested that me may be offered a new deal to keep him around at Ibrox.

Aarons was signed to compete with Tavernier, yet the Rangers skipper has once again shown that, despite his flaws, there is no keeping him away from first-team football at Ibrox.

The goal versus Livingston will do Aarons the world of good, yet he needs to perform at a much higher level if he wants to achieve consistent game time.
