Russell Martin's name will forever be whispered under the breaths of Rangers supporters.

The 40-year-old was appointed as Rangers head coach in June last year, but come early October he was already given the Govan boot.

His sacking ensured he'd be the shortest-serving permanent manager in Rangers' history.

From his 17 games in charge as Gers boss, Martin won just five games, drawing six and losing the other six.

Now in charge of Leicester City in England's third tier, his team are struggling massively in League One after relegation from the Championship.

And after the Foxes' latest defeat on Tuesday night, Martin didn't shy away from conversation with Leicester supporters.

What did Russell Martin say to Leicester fan?

With Leicester currently sitting 14th in League One and having won twice from their opening seven league games, Martin is under huge pressure.

Many expected the Foxes to win automatic promotion straight back to the Championship this season, 10 years after they won the Premier League.

With that backdrop, Leicester were defeated 2-1 by Stevenage in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, prompting angry Foxes fans to wait for Martin after the game.

In footage shared to X via a user named @FilbertSt1884, Martin stuck up for himself as criticism from the supporter came his way.

"Russell, I've come from Exeter to watch this, I go everywhere to watch this club. I want you to succeed, but don't play the football the owners want you to play, play the football that we want you to play. We're not giving you personal abuse," said the fan.

"Well you are," retorted Martin, who followed up by saying: "We've had 135 shots in five games. That's attacking football," to which the fan disagreed.

"It's too predictable. It takes too long to get to those chances," the fan replied, with Martin saying: "I disagree. We're going to disagree on this."

After the fan claimed he'd soon be sacked, Martin said: "That's fine, I live and die by the sword. You got promoted with Enzo (Maresca) by the way, you've been (expletive) since then.

"You got promoted with 96 points. What do you want? Because you had Gary Rowett, you had Marti Cifuentes, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"We've had more shots in five games than you've had in 10/15 last season, I don't know what you want. We'll win and when we win, we'll be fine and you'll enjoy it. I appreciate the support."

In a way, respect must be handed to Martin for fronting up to the supporter, but a key part of his argument is incorrect.

How many shots have Leicester actually had in last five games?

Aside from the results, Martin received a lot of stick from Rangers fans for his ability to talk a good game, only for his team to fall flat on the pitch.

He claims Leicester have taken 135 shots in the last five games, which as detailed in the numbers via FotMob, simply isn't true.

Against Stevenage they had 21 shots, Fulham Under-21s saw them take 35, Barnsley 20, Stockport nine and finally 13 attempts against Oxford.

In total, that adds up to 98 shots over the last five games, which is a very strong return no doubt, but nowhere near the 135 Martin claims.

On top of that, two of those games have been EFL Trophy clashes with one against Fulham's academy side.

If we're talking their last five league games only, Leicester have taken 84, so even if Martin was referring to league-only, this number is still miles off.
