Rangers boss Danny Rohl is on the verge of a departure, with a job at RB Salzburg lined up.

After missing out on the Scottish Premiership title, pressure has been piled on the German by the fanbase, but he is now about to go out on his own terms.

Rangers' planning has been interrupted, with the recruitment thus far centred around Rohl.

However, the club have acted swiftly, with Derek McInnes set to take over before pre-season.

It is naturally frustrating to see a manager walk out on a club, though the reasoning can be somewhat understood.

And after the most recent developments within the Red Bull group, the opportunity could have gotten even bigger.

Red Bull developments leave doors open for Danny Rohl following Rangers exit

Reshaped into what is now RB Salzburg in 2005, the club are not exactly well-liked across Austria.

The same can be said for sister club RB Leipzig, who sit at the top of the Red Bull food chain.

The Austrian variant is often used as a developing ground for Leipzig, with the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Benjamin Sesko, Naby Keita and more all moving to German side Leipzig.

As often as possible, Red Bull look to promote from within, meaning that Rohl would automatically be in pole position for the job in Saxony, should he perform in Austria.

Though these chances could have shifted again this weekend, with Leipzig opting to sack manager Ole Werner after a third-place finish - replaced by former Manchester City and Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis

Despite being relegated from La Liga with Mallorca last month, Leipzig have obviously seen something in Demichelis.

However, he is incredibly unproven at the top level, having only moved to Europe this year as a coach.

Should this go wrong, and he not live up to the expectations, Rohl - a product of the Red Bull group himself - would be directly in line for the top job within the project.

He is well-renowned across Germany, and consistently mentioned within circles should a manager lose his job in the Bundesliga.

And should he perform in Salzburg, he may well find himself moving on quicker than anticipated.

Barry Ferguson: 'Unreal Ibrox buzz' possible despite Danny Rohl developments

Rangers will feel betrayed by Rohl, but they can still benefit

As mentioned, a manager walking out on you is never a nice feeling for the hierarchy or the fanbase.

However, Rangers have left themselves in a strong position based on their swift reaction to the situation.

In McInnes, a manager is coming in who knows the league, while his job at Hearts could well convince players that Ibrox is the place to be this summer.

The Gers will feel slightly betrayed by Rohl, particularly given the trust placed in him since the gutting end to the season.

But Rangers may well take more steps forward than they end up taking back.
