A deadline-day move for Lawrence Shankland now looks to be off for Rangers, with his chances of leaving Hearts in the coming hours now "minimal", according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via their website on 1 February that, while there has been plenty of talk of a possible move, none of it has emerged from Ibrox, although it was also said to never say never in the closing hours.

Possible moves to English Championship sides have also been mooted, but it is said the word coming out of Hearts is that no club has even picked up the phone to ask about Shankland this month.

Anything could happen

While no calls have been fielded yet at Hearts, it's no rarity to see panic set in in the closing hours of the transfer window, and with Rangers still looking for a new striker this month, a late deal could still be on the cards despite the minimal chances.

However, it does now look unlikely that Shankland will follow Mohamed Diomande and Fabio Silva into Ibrox before 11pm tonight, despite the club's transfer priority.

As mentioned by the Daily Record, no noises had emerged from Ibrox about their interest, and links seemed to be born from the fact Rangers need a striker and Shankland presents the best option for that position.

Rangers

Keeping the SPFL top-scorer at Tynecastle was the priority for Hearts this month, and it seems they may have got their wish, although if Rangers do follow up their reported interest with a late move to sign him, it will certainly be one to keep an eye on.

For now, that looks unlikely.
