Vaclav Cerny to 'never play for Rangers again' as he waves farewell

Rahul has covered Rangers on Ibrox News since joining Breaking Media in March 2025. He has previously written for Goalkeeper.com, Planet Football, Snack Media, GRV Media and others since graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2021. During his time in Edinburgh, Rahul would regularly trek across to Glasgow to watch Rangers in action at Ibrox, during the days of Pedro Caixinha and Steven Gerrard's managerial spells.

Vaclav Cerny has been one of Rangers' best performers in an otherwise dismal season, but there is now a chance he does not feature again.

Cerny joined on loan from Wolfsburg last summer, and hit the ground running as he was individually superb throughout the campaign at Ibrox.

Rangers had little to shout home about in a miserable year in which they ended up trophyless, with Cerny now facing an uncertain future at Ibrox.

The winger may have dropped a major hint over his next move, though.

Cerny sends farewell message ahead of Rangers end of season

Rangers have just one game left this season as they travel to face Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, but there is nothing to play for.

Barry Ferguson's side ran out 3-1 winners over Dundee United in their final game at Ibrox, and Cerny delivered again as he provided an assist for Nicolas Raskin.

Cerny's record at Rangers

Cerny has now taken to Instagram to seemingly thank Rangers fans following their last game at Ibrox, and could have hinted that he is set for an exit from the club.

The 27-year-old posted a picture of him waving to fans in black and white, with a blue heart emoji, suggesting that he is to exit Rangers once his loan expires.

Ferguson must not start Cerny if he is to leave Rangers

Cerny's last appearance at Ibrox was his chance to say goodbye to the fans if he is to leave, and he now appears to have done that.

If he does end up staying beyond his loan, Rangers will be delighted, given that the attacker scored 18 goals this season.

However, if he is to depart, this final game against Hibernian could provide a good opportunity for a young player, or someone who will be at Rangers next season, to get some game time.

In what will likely be Ferguson's last game as interim boss, he should be setting up a team with players ready to fight for their futures, and those who are confirmed to be leaving, or intending to depart, should start on the bench.

This will allow the incoming new ownership to assess the players they will start out with, and if Cerny will not be one of them, he will have nothing to prove to the new owners.

Rangers fans have been here before with Abdallah Sima, so this is nothing new.
