Union Bears destroyed after 'Mortifying' Rangers developments at Ibrox

Rangers have been embroiled in controversy for off-field incidents yet again following their 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Celtic at Ibrox.

Cyriel Dessers gave the home side the lead in the 44th minute, but Adam Idah cancelled out his goal with a second-half equaliser on Sunday afternoon.

The result was meaningless in terms of the Scottish Premiership table, but events in the home end have sparked debate.

Rangers apologise for antics in stands

Although there was nothing to play for in terms of positions, the Old Firm derby threw up some intriguing headlines.

The Union Bears sparked contention after a tifo revealed former player and manager Graeme Souness aiming a shotgun, with a message below.

Chief sports writer and broadcaster for BBC Scotland, Tom English, let loose on X in response to the brazen banner, saying it was "mortifying".

He said: "Rangers apologise for the bottle thrown (Dear God!) and for the tifo of Graeme Souness with a shotgun aimed at “rebel scum” I mean, who allowed that monstrosity into the stadium?

"Just when you think their season couldn’t get any more mortifying, the Union Bears step up."

Rangers face tough Barry Ferguson decision

Away from the off-field drama, Rangers face an impending decision involving their caretaker manager, Barry Ferguson.

The 47-year-old has been in temporary charge of the Scottish side since late February and has spoken about his desire to land the job permanently.

During his short spell as manager, Ferguson has overseen only four wins in 12 matches, including a win and a draw with Celtic.

Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been linked with a sensational return to Ibrox, which suggests Ferguson will not be given the job.

Gerrard was in charge of the Gers for over three years and led them to their first title in 10 years during his tenure.

Since leaving Scotland, the former Liverpool man has had spells with Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq, but left his role by mutual consent in January.

The former England international has unfinished business at Ibrox and could be tempted by a romantic rekindling with his former side.

Whether Rangers decide to keep Ferguson or not, they must make a decision soon as they aim to improve on a disappointing season.

With possible punishment on the way, big changes are needed both in and out of the stands.
