Lawrence Shankland has been called out after Rangers crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday.

Starting the night 2-1 behind on aggregate to Jagiellonia, the Bears could only manage a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

It was Shankland who got Rangers off to the perfect start, firing home an early penalty to level the tie.

But a second-half header from Nik Prelec was enough to send Derek McInnes into the Conference League play-off next week.

Rangers fans were far from happy, with boos ringing from every stand inside Ibrox as the full-time whistle went.

It will take a hell of a lot, and quickly, for McInnes and Shankland to turn this around for those in blue.

Lawrence Shankland loses old self already

This is not the striker that fans expected to turn up at Ibrox.

Named captain by McInnes, many thought he would hit the ground running and continue his sensational scoring record in Scotland.

Instead, Tom English has questioned whether he is even fully fit after starting his season with a whimper.

Speaking live via BBC Sportsound on Thursday evening, English simply couldn't believe what he was watching against Jagiellonia.

"Lawrence Shankland looks like he's just unfit," he said.

"I don't know why he's in the team, I understand he's the captain, fine, but he doesn't look like he should.

"He looks nothing like the Lawrence Shankland of last season, I though the whole thing was really poor."

Where is it going wrong for Rangers?

Once again, they've started a season by bringing in far too many players.

For the last three seasons, Rangers appear to be chasing quantity over quality, and it is showing more brutally every year.

Shankland looked to be different, arriving on a free from Hearts, but that hasn't been the case.

Other quick cheap deals like Cammy Devlin and Dan Neil have been nowhere near good enough.

Add that to the fact that McInnes has all of these new players, yet doesn't have a clue how or where to play them, and it's only going to end one way.

With St Mirren in the cup next at Ibrox, nothing but a win will do before Rangers drop into the Conference League.

If Shankland and McInnes can't get past FK Jablonec, there will be absolute carnage in Glasgow as this season goes from bad to worse already.
