Todd Cantwell antics leave Philippe Clement absolutely livid at Rangers amid exit speculation

Derek Ferguson has suggested that Todd Cantwell needs to cut some of his "antics" out after a difficult second season at Rangers.

The Englishman starred under Michael Beale after arriving two Januarys ago but could be sold this summer by Philippe Clement if the right offer comes in according to Sky Sports (13 June).

Cantwell, 26, got off to an uneasy start under the Belgian when he was substituted before half time early in the new manager's reign, and the campaign didn't finish well either after Clement was spotted shoving the midfielder away from a dispute with officials in the Scottish Cup final loss to Celtic.

Ferguson believes the ex-Norwich man's behaviour hasn't helped him in Scotland, and suggests his rivalries with Hoops players - he was mocked online by Greg Taylor and Alistair Johnston after the cup final - has only served to motivate the opposition.

The former Gers midfielder spoke exclusively to Ibrox News, saying: "He seems to have a few feuds going with some of the Celtic boys, and that just gives them motivation in my opinion. 

"You can see how the manager reacted to him, he's absolutely livid with him. 

"It might just be in Todd's nature, I don't know the boy off the park, I bet he's a lovely boy, a great guy.

"But sometimes that happens to players when they cross that white line they cannae handle certain situations, or somebody's winding them up and they take the bait.

"Todd looks like that to me. Maybe he should cut his hair short, lose the headband, and just stop mouthing off at the opposition, just put the ball in the back of the net.

"I like him as a football player but I wish he would cut some of the antics out."

Celtic feuds haven't helped Todd Cantwell at Rangers

A year ago Cantwell had just starred in the Light Blues' only league Old Firm victory and looked a likely candidate for the team to be built around as Michael Beale overhauled the squad.

The fact that the former manager is now long gone and his successor is now tasked with doing the same thing already shows how well that went.

On top form the midfielder's extras are probably worth putting up with, but if he isn't producing his best then they become an increasing frustration.

Clement has never seemed especially enamoured with Cantwell in his favoured central position and it wouldn't be a shock to see a bid accepted if one comes in during the transfer window.
