Rangers have finally sacked Russell Martin.

Rangers relieved Martin of his duties after yet another dismal 1-1 draw against Falkirk on Sunday, not before he was forced into a Police escort to leave.

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have already released a statement admitting they were wrong with the appointment, as they get more hands on for his replacement.

That won't be before a hefty bill is settled, though.

Russell Martin bill emerges at Ibrox for Rangers

Martin was only 123 days into a three-year contract at Rangers, meaning more than 75 per cent of his contract may have had to be paid out.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, football finance expert Dan Plumley predicted the bill that could be sitting in the boardroom for the American owners.

"It's going to be in the region of low single-digit millions, you would say," he said.

"£1million or £2million, depending on the details of his contract, you never quite know, but you can see the estimates online of what he was earning at Rangers.

"You're sacking him 123 days into a three-year contract; it's going to cost you. I would imagine that number would be low single-digit millions, cautiously, in and around £1m would be a sensible benchmark.

"As we say, we don't have the exact numbers, and there is a little bit of speculation in there, but you're hit with a fairly hefty bill to get rid of him and a fairly major statement of something that has gone drastically wrong."

Russell Martin had to be sacked

Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Philippe Clement and Michael Beale were all sacked for less at Ibrox; the only surprise is that it took so long to do.

Rangers sitting eighth in the Scottish Premiership heading into the second international break of the season is a disgrace.

After a net spend of around £20million, this pay-off for Martin will not be too much of a blow financially, but more a reminder that you cannot get these decisions wrong in Glasgow.
