The international record Rangers prospect Kyle Glasgow can now break after U21s call-up

Rangers academy prospect Kyle Glasgow has been called up to the Scotland Under-21s squad.

The 16-year-old is progressing well beyond his years, with the Bears clearly having a top talent on their hands.

Glasgow is currently out on loan with Scottish League One side Alloa Athletic, where he has scored twice and assisted once in seven games.

Derek McInnes will undoubtedly be keeping tabs on the youngster, and deciphering whether he is proving himself to be ready for regular senior minutes at Rangers.

But before that decision arrives at the end of the 2026-27 season, the youngster has a chance to make history.

And it could come within the next few weeks.

How Kyle Glasgow can make Scotland history

Getting called up for the Under-21s at just 16 years old is an incredibly impressive feat as not many have had the honour over the years of doing so.

However, one player who has had that chance is Scotland's Ben Gannon-Doak.

The young winger featured for Scotland Under-21s back in September 2022 and managed to find the net.

His goal against Northern Ireland's Under-21s would make him the youngest-ever scorer for Scotland at that age group, as per BBC Sport.

But now Rangers' Glasgow has the opportunity to claim that record for himself in the upcoming international break.

By the time the Scottish Under-21s' first game against Azerbaijan's Under-21s comes around, Glasgow will be 16 years and 222 days old.

When Gannon-Doak broke the record, he was 16 years and 315 days old.

Glasgow will have two attempts at the record as well, with the second game of the break arriving on 6 October.

Scoring against Bulgaria then would still have him well below the threshold as he would be 16 years and 228 days old.

Why Scotland Under-21s chance is big for Glasgow

Glasgow has already been performing well for Alloa this season, but international football, at any age group, is another beast entirely.

This gives him the chance to really showcase where his current level is at and if his League One performances can be translated elsewhere.

A strong international break for the under-21s will only further strengthen his case for a possible improved role at Ibrox next season.

He is clearly a top talent for the Gers and McInnes.
