Rangers' managerial saga may be coming to an end soon.

After what seems like a long-overdue ordeal, Rangers finally look set to appoint a new manager.

Russell Martin's sacking was only at the start of October, but a number of names have been linked since then and Steven Gerrard has already rejected the Rangers job.

Muscat has never managed in Scotland.

Simons Jordan compares Kevin Muscat with Ange Postecoglou and Celtic

Jordan publicly criticised Muscat in 2023, questioning whether his credentials are enough to land him the Rangers job.

In a dramatic U-turn, Jordan now believes Muscat would be the right man for Rangers after circulating rumours, while speaking live on talkSPORT.

"I knew Kevin as a player. He was a nutjob in lot's of ways, but that's a playing perspective," Jordan said.

"The performance of Muscat as a manager has to be looked at in isolation, because he's managed the same team Ange Postecoglou has managed.

"Before Postecoglou got the Celtic job he managed the same team that Muscat managed, and to a lesser degree with less returns than Ange does.

  • Ange Postecoglou managed Japanese side Yokohama F.Marinos before landing Celtic gig
  • Kevin Muscat replaced Postecoglou at the J.League side in 2021
  • Muscat currently manages in China

"So if Ange's credentials were considered good enough for the Celtic job, then why wouldn't Muscat's be for Rangers?

"If you actually distil it down, there's a case for Kevin."

Not many people would have thought Muscat could soon be the next head coach at Ibrox when Gerrard was linked to the job, but it's now looking a possibility.

Could Muscat be a success at Rangers?

As a coach, Muscat is a proven winner, the same as Postecoglou was before joining Celtic.

He has won the Chinese Super League twice, and also won the league in Australia and Japan multiple times as a head coach.

The Australian has proven to be adaptable as a head coach in different environments for big clubs in their respective countries, as his experience is needed at Rangers.

Muscat would bring strong leadership to Ibrox, something Rangers desperately need right now, and who knows? He could help the Gers to a trophy this season.
