Rangers player Ianis Hagi and his country have been slammed by the Romania media after the 0-0 draw with Liechtenstein on Friday (7 June).

The midfielder has been out on loan with Deportivo Alaves this season, having been shipped off by Michael Beale last summer, but was handed the captain's armband for the international clash.

Hagi managed to play 65 minutes after being hooked as the Romanian national team was slammed for "the most embarrassing moments of the last 25 years", entering the "gallery of shame". [Fanatik]

Reacting to the performances on Friday (7 June), Prima Sport wrote: "Ianis Hagi - do you know how many goals he scored in La Liga? About as many as the Liechtenstein stars scored in Bucharest."

Hagi has done little to convince those at Ibrox that he is ready for a starting place in Philippe Clement's squad following a season-long loan in Spain.

His recent quotes about finding a new club will certainly not have done him any favours, admitting that he had told his agents to begin the search as Romania prepare for Euro 2024.

It is a shame if Hagi's career at Ibrox ends like this. The player had bundles of potential during his first few years in Scotland, having made 87 appearances for the club after his loan deal was made permanent in 2020.

However, that looks to be coming to an end this summer, with a move away from Ibrox seeming to be the only outcome. Despite his previous exploits for Rangers, there is no love lost between the player and the fans.

With Mohamed Diomande, Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, there is little room left for the Romanian, and they are unlikely to want him back now anyway.

He has notched just two goals in 26 appearances for Deportivo Alaves since moving to Spain last summer, which will provide no confidence to the hierarchy at Ibrox.
