Rod Stewart is expecting Celtic to beat Rangers in next month's huge showdown, but says there is still time for his club to slip up if they take their eye off the prize.

The Old Firm showdown at Celtic Park on 11 May could yet go a long way to determining who wins the Scottish Premiership title.

Before that, the current leaders travel to Dundee and then host Hearts, the first of which Stewart worries could be a possible banana skin fixture.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we win [against Rangers] at Celtic Park," he told talkSPORT [25 April, 09:35am]. "But we can't take our foot off the pedal, that's the thing. Sunday could even be a problem [at Dundee]."

Celtic v Rangers could still be title decider

It is no surprise that Stewart is backing Celtic to come out on top against Rangers, but there is plenty of football to be played before then.

The recent Old Firm clash at Ibrox was billed as season defining, yet the Gers went on to lose to Ross County and draw with Dundee.

In a way, that provides hope for the Light Blues as they need Celtic to drop points either side of the Old Firm, which looks must-win for the Gers.

We always knew deep down there would be plenty of twists and turns in the title race, and so that has proved over the past couple of weeks.

That makes for an exciting conclusion to the campaign, with every game taking on more importance than the last.

Forget what Celtic do, though - Rangers must just focus on defeating St Mirren in Paisley this weekend in another huge game.
