Robby McCrorie exit update emerges as Rangers place price in January transfer news

Rangers have placed a £1million price tag on Robby McCrorie after he asked to leave the club in the summer in search of first-team football, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper shared via their print edition [23 January, page 68] that McCrorie had spoken to then-boss Michael Beale about his desire to play first-team football, but no move materialised.

No movement has taken place in the January transfer window either, with Jack Butland set to return for the Scottish Premiership clash with Hibernian.

Let him go for his own good

While having a strong backup goalkeeper is always important for any club, McCrorie has featured just once this season in the cup victory against Dumbarton, with Butland dominating the position since his arrival at Ibrox in the summer.

As a result, it may be best for all parties if he is allowed to leave. Whether that means lowering the price tag in an attempt to encourage bidders is yet to be seen, but he should be granted his wish of playing regular football somewhere.

McCrorie will have his sights set on the upcoming European Championships, but he has no chance of getting into the Scotland squad unless he is the first-choice somewhere, which makes a Rangers exit look inevitable from his point of view.

It is pretty widely accepted that the goalkeeper has the quality to play international football, so if he wants to leave Ibrox rather than stay sitting on the bench watching Butland play, the club should allow that to happen.
