Ridvan Yilmaz agents told to find Rangers exit transfer, he does not fit Philippe Clement side

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Ridvan Yilmaz's agents need to find the Rangers defender a move away from the club this summer to a league which suits him better, says Derek Ferguson.

The Turkish full-back has been regularly linked with a departure from Ibrox through recent transfer windows and this summer is no different, with former Ibrox boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst linked to signing him again at new club Besiktas [Turkiye Gazete, 18 June].

Former Gers favourite Ferguson doesn't think the diminutive Yilmaz fits the profile of players which Philippe Clement wants to populate his squad with, and with a series of moves already made to bring in left-sided signings such as Jefte, Oscar Cortes and Clinton Nsiala the writing may already be on the wall.

So with the manager rebuilding the squad in his image having only replaced Michael Beale midseason last term the pundit believes the time is now to sell the left-back.

He spoke exclusively to Ibrox News and said: "It would be a good time for him to go, maybe if he is to go back to Turkey, we get a few bob as well.

"I think he will be away because if you look at the manager and the signings he's made, Cortes has come in, obviously wide left, Nsiala, Jefte, these guys are all left-sided.

"That's where Yilmaz plays, and they're all six-foot-plus, powerful guys.

"I think it'd be well-advised for his agents to go and find [something] where it suits him, where he's more comfortable."

Former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is said to be interested in signing Ridvan Yilmaz again.

Yilmaz has been a solid contributor when he has actually been fit to start regularly and looked to have made a breakthrough under Clement last term.

But his extremely untimely latest injury absence late in the season won't likely have impressed the Belgian who was clearly frustrated by the frequency that he was left without important players thanks to fitness concerns.

If a sufficient bid comes in then it would be no surprise at all for the club to accept it since Clement seemed willing to do so amid interest from the Turkish Super Lig in January, and it may work out best in the long term for all parties if that happens.
