Rangers transfer update emerges on potential Morgan Whittaker move to Ibrox

Rangers have cooled their interest in 22-year-old Swansea forward Morgan Whittaker, despite the player being open to a move away this summer, according to Wales Online.

The Bears are long-term admirers of Whittaker, who has also attracted interest from Plymouth Argyle and Coventry City this summer, but the Glasgow side have seemingly walked away at this stage.

Wales Online initially reported Rangers' interest in Whittaker in January, when he was recalled from his loan spell at Plymouth, with Swansea reportedly evaluating his position in the squad ahead of his possible permanent sale [Wales Online, 16 January].

He could provide a different style to Rangers' forwards

At the time of Rangers' initial reported interest, Whittaker had just been recalled from a spell at Plymouth where he scored nine goals and made seven assists, proving his talent in the attacking phase of the game, but managed just one goal from 15 appearances in the second half of the season with Swansea.

His ability to play across the front line would offer Rangers a new outlet, although this is seemingly also the reason they brought Brighton winger Abdallah Sima to the club on loan. The ability to transition across the front line can be a valuable asset.

Whittaker is still only 22 years old, with plenty of room to grow if he is to hit the heights once expected of him as a young Derby County player.

With the player supposedly open to a summer move, Rangers could yet reignite their interest in him, and he would provide good depth to their forward options as Beale builds his squad this pre-season.
