Kevin Thelwell already has a long list waiting in his office at Rangers, with a new manager top of that.

The new sporting director at Ibrox is yet to be officially announced, but is free to step into his role following the end of the Premier League season with Everton on Sunday.

The 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh are finally closing in on their takeover, with the pieces of a long-awaited puzzle coming together in Govan.

Thelwell to present new Rangers manager

Rangers are now thought to be in the final stages of their recruitment process.

The Scottish Daily Mail has reported in its print edition (26 May, pg 59) that the Bears would ideally look to formally unveil their new manager alongside Thelwell at Ibrox.

Gretar Steinsson of the 49ers and Patrick Stewart are also handling the appointment process, with Daivde Ancelotti, Brian Priske and Steven Gerrard in the running.

Rangers set for massive changes after takeover

With Thelwell also yet to be revealed, it is going to be a period of huge announcements in Govan.

The Rangers squad will return to Auchenhowie on June 23 ahead of Champions League qualifiers, and by then, a new manager, takeover and Thelwell will all be official, hopefully.

Things are ticking along very slowly in regard to the takeover, but the fact that appointments are being made in the boardroom and the manager hunt is coming to a close, progress is being made.

Priske appearing out of nowhere to be a late contender may show that an appointment isn't as close as one initially thought, but it's good to see all avenues being explored.

Priske's managerial career has seen him win league titles at Midtjylland and Sparta Prague.

With the boardroom slowly being put together ahead of the takeover, the most important decision on who will be the next manager of the famous Bears will dictate how next season will go.

Success is not an option, it is critical at Ibrox.
