Kenny McLean's name is one that has been linked pretty heavily with Rangers this summer.

Football Scotland reported on 8 July that Norwich City would be reluctant to part ways with the Scotland international and that the Gers had yet to table a bid.

But if they are to press ahead with plans to bring the Scotland midfielder to Ibrox, they might have to move quick amid a fresh report on Sunday (14 July).

Journalist Alan Nixon reported on his patreon that Sheffield United have the 32-year-old on their transfer wishlist.

Nixon wrote that McLean and Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes are on the Blades' radar if the Championship club's prospective takeover from an American group gets the green light.

Rangers have to move if they want to sign Norwich ace Kenny McLean

The caveat mentioned by Nixon is what should make Rangers spark into action if they want to bring McLean to Ibrox.

So far, Philippe Clement and his transfer team have focused on bringing younger talent to the club, with Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron emblematic of that approach.

But there is also clearly a need to bring some experienced heads to the club as they look to launch a fresh assault on overhauling Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

McLean would certainly fit that bill and he would provide a wise head in a youthful squad, while also adding an injection of quality to the centre of the park.

The Blades are yet to have their potential takeover ratified, something that has been affecting their ability to complete too much transfer business in this window.

With any move from the South Yorkshire club unlikely to happen until they get the green light, Rangers should look to steal a march and make sure McLean heads to Glasgow if he is to depart Carrow Road.
